With Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Denise Darcel, Cesar Romero. Vera Stanhope is gruff and imperfect but has a good heart. I haven't read Ann Cleeves' books so this review is entirely about the TV series but, presumably in keeping with her books, the stories aren't afraid to explore some difficult issues. Undoubtedly in control from start to finish by purely oozing warmth with vulnerability to throw her prey and (also) the audience off guard.
