Tread

Tread SXSW Review: Colorado Killdozer Finally Gets Much-Needed Documentary. Paul Solet's new movie Tread is one of the most compelling documentaries to come out of SXSW. Docudramas are documentaries that reenact, as historically as possible, real events that the movie, or show, is about. The much-loved film Three Identical Strangers is one very recent example of this style of filmmaking. They are sometimes referred to as "recreation docs," though I feel this term is a misnomer, as there is typically new interviews and material surrounding the recreated moments. The movie opens with a simple title card. "Where Angels Fear to Tread" is an excellent film in need of a story.

A handsomely made film, "Tread" plays out like a gritty, Hollywood thriller. Drawing on his horror and science fiction background, Solet was a writer on National Geographic's well-received series "Mars," the director crafts a highly entertaining non-fiction movie. A Colorado man uses a bulldozer to systematically destroy a small town.
